Balancing Act

As women, we tend to wear many titles: friend, sister, daughter, wife, mother, executive, etc. Never once have I had someone sit me down and ask, how do you manage to balance it all? Honestly, I have no idea!

Take for example today, my day has been some kind of crazy and its going to get worse. I have managed to put in a 9 hour day at work, only to pick up my son from school, get him a snack and then head off to view 3 homes for a girlfriend who is moving back to Atlanta from CapeTown, South Africa. In between all of that, my son has to do homework, practice his reading, take a bath, eat dinner and spend some quality time with my husband and I. Obviously we won't get home until late but my day still doesn't end there...

I have 3 websites to finish designing, 2 sets of business cards to design, another blog to setup (more on that later) and a workout to complete.

0_0 Can I get a clone?

I'll be the first to admit that I sometimes to volunteer and offer to do things without thinking about the 80 million other things I have going on. Sometimes I can't help it; if there is someone in need, I'm first to pitch in and help. But today, a colleague had to "gut check me". She said that if I am trying to accomplish a certain goal, I need to make sure I am allowing myself to be an a place and mindset where I am open and ready to accept it. Hmmm....

That statement resonated with me in more ways than one and I am still letting it sink in.

Are you allowing yourself to be open and accepting to what's in store for you? Or, are you blocking your own blessings?

Love is the air

I won't get into the fact that I've been locked inside my house since Monday afternoon any attention right now (because I'm going to blog about it later). Instead, I'm going to talk about...Love.

SOURCE

Love is the air and it has a lot to do with the fact that Valentine's Day is just a few hours away. Call it a commercial holiday or what ever you want, I love Valentine's Day. I think it's absolutely adorable to see people go that extra mile on one day out of the year to say, "hey, you know I love you but let me remind you again just how much".

I have never been one of those bitter women who complained during Valentine's Day when I didn't have a boyfriend or a Boo Thang. Instead, I embraced it and celebrated it with those that I loved most. I gave my parents presents, wrote my brothers cards, bought my BFFs gifts and flowers because all those people were special to me. My husband and I will be spending our first Valentine's Day together as husband and wife. I don't care about the gifts or the flowers or the chocolate; the fact that I can call him my husband is the absolute best thing in the world to me.

Every restaurant and store will pretty much be packed so we are going to do something different. Last year for V-day I refused to deal with crowds at a restaurant so we opted to stay home, cook a steak dinner and relax in front of the tv with our son. This year we are going to spend it an intimate concert with one of my favorite singers, Dwele. *swoons* I can't wait! As for anything else, well, it doesn't matter. As long as my son and my husband are there, it can't get any better.

Ice-meageddon

Apparently there is a major ice storm headed this way that is supposed to hit Atlanta later tonight. According to the meteorologists, we will be under sheets of ice for about two days before the sun makes a reappearance and melts everything away.

Didn't we just deal with this two weeks ago? 3 days of cabin fever, all right before Valentine's Day and leading into President's Day. Talk about a helluva week!

Back At It

I'm back. In the early part of 2013, I decided to delete my personal blog. For some reason, I go through these spells where I want to delete my blog and start all over again. Little do I realize that I am actually deleting some very critical posts and milestones in my life.

Here we are in 2014 and I am in a new place and space in life. Since deleting my previous blog I have: gotten married (6-2-2013), been recognized for some major achievements at work, lost a little bit of weight, won an award for my natural hair blog and contemplated how best to take over the world; to name a few. All in all,2013 was a good year and 2014 is looking even promising.

But in all the goodness, I realized that I did not have an outlet to sometimes just vent about the things happening to me or around me. I still read many of the bloggers I used to follow (thank good for Bloglovin) and have found a few more that I like. Now it's time for me to share so here goes...

Hi. I'm Monique and I'm blogging again....
